The city of San Carlos de Bariloche

San Carlos de Bariloche is located in the Cordillera de Los Andes, Argentina, in the northern part of Patagonia and belongs to the province of Rio Negro. According to the census of 2010, San Carlos de Bariloche has 108,250 inhabitants, was founded on May 3, 1902 and the name "Bariloche" comes from the word derived from the Mapuche language "vuriloche" which means "people from the other side of the mountain."

Bariloche's's Civic Center is considered the main point of Bariloche, it was inaugurated on March 17 of 1940 and declared a national historic monument in 1987.

If you want to try something different than you've ever lunched, you do not miss the curanto in Colonia Suiza.
For lunch every Wednesday and Sunday and is an unforgettable experience. The food begins to be prepared at 11 am which is cooked into a hole in the ground. Branches are added into the well and then are stones placed on the branches, which set fire and heat up the stones.
After a while, and when the stones are hot, again branches are placed above the stones, then are added vegetables, fruits and meats to be re-cover with more branches, rags and finally with earth. After a few hours, everything is uncovered and this delicious curanto can be eaten .

Short Circuit

This tour is a half day tour, roundtrip 65 km and you can do it by car or by bus. This pleasant drive starts in Bariloche and goes west along the southern shore of the Nahuel Huapi Lake. After 8 km you arrive at Playa Bonita where you have a wide view of Huemul Island. Cerro Campanario is 18 km away from town. There you can take a chair-lift to the summit to overlook lakes Nahuel Huapi and Moreno, Victioria Island, Llao Llao Hotel, San Pedro Peninsula, El Trebol lagoon and mountains such as Millaqueo, Lopez, Capilla, Goye, Bella Vista, Catedral and Otto.

The drive continues trough a dense forest of coihues that is considered a municipal protected area, and where you can hike on clearly marked trails. After going over the bridge that crosses the stream that joins the Moreno with the Nahuel Huapi Lake, the road follows the southern shore of Lake Moreno passing by Mount Lopez and "Punto Panoramico" (a scenic viewpoint). You cross the bridge over the narrowest point of Lake Moreno, then you border El Trebol lagoon and then you will return to the city.

The Cerro Otto is a mountain located in the Nahuel Huapi National Park, 5km fromthe city of Bariloche. It has a height of 1405. The Cerro Otto offers all tourists a free bus from the center of the city of San Carlos de Bariloche to the base of the Cerro Otto. Following, the cable car will take you to the rotating cafeteria, where you can enjoy a hot chocolate accompanied by handmade cakes. Seven Lake Tour

This is a whole day or two days trip by car or by bus, roundtrip 396 km. From Bariloche to the northern area of the Nahuel Huapi National Park, driving to Villa La Angostura, a beautiful town next to the Chilean Border. From there you connect the Seven Lake Circuit, a road of 112 km, that goes to San Martin de los Andes, passing by many lakes as: Correntoso, Espejo, Villarino, Falkner and Hermoso. At the end you get to this beautiful town, places besides Lacar Lake. You return by the road of Paso Cordoba, bordering Lake Meliquina that joins the National Route 237 to Bariloche. From this road you will appreciate strange images created by eolic and water erosion on the rocky formations of the Enchanted Valley and then the Amphitheater, which is a special place erosioned by the waters of Limay River, thousands of years ago.

Isla Victoria and Arrayanes forest

Tourists can choose between two companies to make the trip: Cau Cau (catamarannewer and more expensive) and Turisur (historical ship "Modesta Victoria" and cheaper). The tour begins at Puerto Pañuelo, located at km. 25 of the AV. Bustillo de San Carlos de Bariloche taking a catamaran that will guide you to the beautiful Victoria Island (10km journey that will last half hour).

Victoria Island was inhabited by aboriginal peoples in the past that left numerous evidences of their presence such as log canoes, small fragments of pottery andtextiles and numerous paintings. The findings obtained in Victoria Island showhuman occupation for at least 7 or 8 centuries ago. At the same time, you can visitLas Playas del Toro, Puerto Gross, Radal and Piedras Blancas.
After visiting the Victoria Island, tourists will sail to the port Quetrihue to visit the Arrayanes National Park . One point of interest is the beautiful wooden house,immersed in the Arrayanes Forest, tells the story that this forest was known by the famous American artist and filmmaker Walt Disney, who was inspired by this fantastic landscape to perform his film "Bambi". Port Blest, "Los Cantaros" Waterfall and Lake Frías

This is a whole day tour you can do by boat. This lake tour consists on sailing westwards on Lake Nahuel Huapi trough the Blest arm of the lake towards its end at Puerto Blest. During this trip you can admire special views like the one of Centinela Island (th place where Fransisco P Moreno, ,the father of the Argentinean National Pars was burried). As you arrive at Puerto Blest, in the center of the valdivian rain forest, you start a bus drive to Lake Frías, where you sail to the last argentine port of the "lake crossing" to Chili: Port Frías. Later the catamaran crosses the lake to visit "Los Cantaros" waterfall, where you can walk up about 720 steps alongside the falls to get to "Los Cantaros" Lake.

Mount Tronador - Cascada Los Alerces

The tour heads south of Bariloche crossing 35km bording the lake Gutierrez and Mascardi. Deflected by a gravel road to the west. This route is taken across the bridge over the river Manso, along the western shore of Lake Mascardi. It passes in front of the "Cerro Emparedado" and borders the Upper Manso River up to Pampa Linda.

Then it crosses part of the Valley of the Vuriloches and finally, through a shady forest, we arrive to the viewpoint at the base of the hill Tronador, which gives spectacular views of the glacier Rio Manso, better known as Black Glacier, a black glacier caused by an exceptional sedimentation of the same color, whose base is the pure white of the summit of Cerro Tronador. Here comes the Manso river down the hill and flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

EThe tour ends a little later at the foot of the hill Tronador. This hill is named Thunderer, due to the rumblings that cause the detachment of ice blocks. The three peaks of Tronador are Argentina (3410 m), International (3478 m) and Chile (3430 m), promoted by climbers during the summer.

The "Cascada los Alerces" is an option on the tour to the Tronador. Instead of crossing the bridge over the River Manso, continue along the gravel road along the lake Moscos and river Manso arriving to Lake Hess finalizing the route near the Cascada Los Alerces. Walking the remaining 300 meters you reach the viewpoint of the waterfall, from where you can see the water rushing with a drop of 30 meters between the high rocks. The Patagonian train is a beautiful train ride linking the Cordillera de los Andes with the Atlantic Ocean. Regional Fair of El Bolson

The city of El Bolson has 13560 inhabitants and is known for its attractive mountain landscapes and rivers.
